How to Customize appearance of the caption on Disney +

One of the features available on Disney + is the option to customize the subtitles that appear in the series and films, being able to change the style of the text and its size. However, as this process may be slightly different depending on the device, we have prepared a guide showing how to change the appearance of the caption on each device:

Browser

  1. While watching some Disney + content, click the button Audio and Subtitles in the upper right corner of the screen
  2. Then click on the gear icon in the upper right corner
  3. A new screen will open and you can change the caption

Note: Not all browsers allow subtitles to be customized.

Smart TV

  1. While watching some Disney + content, select the option Audio and Subtitles in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Caption style
  3. On this screen, change the colour and font of the legend as desired

Apple TV

  1. In your device’s app, go to Settings
  2. Select in order: General -> Accessibility -> Subtitles and Closed Captioning -> Style
  3. On this screen, you can choose a predefined style or create a new one.

Note: If you create a new style, be sure to disable Video Override.

Roku

  1. On the Roku home screen, go to settings
  2. Select in order: Accessibility -> Caption style
  3. Change the appearance of the captions on the device as desired.

Amazon Fire TV

  1. On the home screen, go to the tab settings
  2. Select in order: Accessibility -> Closed Caption preferences
  3. On this screen, you can customize the appearance of the legend.

iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (iOS version 13 and later)

  1. Access the Disney + app and tap Settings
  2. Select in order: Accessibility -> Subtitles and Closed Captioning -> Style
  3. On this screen, you can choose a predefined style or create a new one.

For previous versions of iOS the steps are almost the same, with the difference that after Adjustment you will have to go in General.

Note: If you create a new style, be sure to disable Video Override.

Android on Google devices

  1. In the app, go to settings
  2. Select in order: Accessibility -> Caption preferences -> Use captions
  3. On this screen, you will be able to change the size and style of the caption.

Android on Samsung devices

  1. In the app, go to settings
  2. Select in order: Accessibility -> Hearing Improvements
  3. Then choose between subtitles from Google (CC) or subtitles from Samsung (CC) and change the setting to enabled
  4. By doing this, you will be able to change the caption size and style.

PlayStation

  1. Access the menu settings
  2. Select in order: Accessibility -> Closed Captions
  3. Check the box where it is written Show Closed Captions
  4. Select Closed Captions settings
  5. On the captions screen, adjust the appearance of the text.

Xbox

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller
  2. Select in order: Systems -> settings -> Accessibility -> Closed Caption
  3. When you arrive at the subtitles screen, customize as you wish.
