GTA V’s story mode has a few different endings and Rockstar has never confirmed which is the true ending. But a recent GTA Online update may have delivered what the real ending to the story mode is.
GTA Online update may have confirmed the true ending of story mode
For those who don’t remember, Grand Theft Auto 5 has multiple endings, with different characters that can live or die based on what players choose to do in the ending. One choice will leave Trevor dead, while another will leave Michael dead. And the third option allows all the main characters to end up alive, and this has long been assumed to be the true ending.
And it has now more or less been confirmed by the GTA Online contract update that this is actually the canonical ending of Grand Theft Auto 5. During one of the game’s missions, players end up driving around the movie set area in a golf cart with Franklin riding a shotgun. Franklin comments that he knows one of the film producers who works there, and while it’s possible he’s referring to someone else, he’s almost certainly talking about Michael, who takes a job as a film producer at the end of GTA 5.
Of course, this only applies to Michael, so it could be argued that it is possible that Trevor’s death is the true end of GTA 5. However, the GTA Online Smuggler’s Run update has confirmed that Trevor is also alive. Between this revelation from Michael and what we already knew about Trevor, it’s safe to say that the canonical ending of GTA 5 is in fact the one in which Franklin, Michael, and Trevor survived the game’s events.
