In God of War, at Niflheim’s Dark Mists they function like the Burning Ember of Muspelheim, that is, they are elements that improve Kratos’ weapons and armor.
The 2018 title of the hit Santa Monica Studio series introduced several new aspects to the franchise, such as a semi-open world for you to explore some realms of Norse Mythology. Some of these realms have exclusive collectibles and items – as is the case, for example, of the desired ones. Niflheim’s Dark Mists.
How to Obtain Dark Mists from Niflheim in God of War
Niflheim’s Dark Mists in God of War possess legendary rank and are a necessary crafting component for the game’s Leviathan Ax. Obtaining these Mists is a difficult task that requires you to work a bit to acquire them. Learn more about this in the following topics!
What is the Dark Mists of Niflheim in God of War?
In God of War, at Niflheim’s Dark Mists they are, as we stated earlier, a component of creation that you can trade-in for Frozen Flame. This will allow you to upgrade Leviathan Ax to its maximum level.
This item can only be found in one place in the entire game: Niflheim, the Mist Realm in Norse Mythology. To get to Niflheim, you will need 4 Niflheim Ciphers.
How to Acquire the 4 Niflheim Figures
The Niflheim Ciphers can be found in a few chests throughout the world of God of War – and some can be difficult to reach, as you’ll need to progress through the main story to get to them. Here are four easy ways to get them:
- One of the Ciphers can be found in a chest by going through some doors, in front of Sindri’s shop on Mount Mountain, when you end up heading back there. On the other side of the door, you will see a piece of the realm that will need to be rebuilt. After doing this, the chest containing the Cipher is on the other side.
- Another Cipher can be found in a chest in the Ruins of the Elders, in the northern part of the Coast of Nine.
- Tyr’s Concealed Chamber contains two chests with Ciphers inside them. The first one is in the room with runes, right after the elevator, while the other chest is in another room, right after the corridors with the rotating blades.
Once you collect the 4 Ciphers, Niflheim will become available.
How to Get the Dark Mists of Niflheim
When you finally reach Niflheim, you’ll notice patches of fog that will kill you if you stay in them too long. Stay on the nearby ground and continue until you finally reach Sindri’s shop. He will explain how to get through a maze that contains more of this lethal mist. In the labyrinth is a central chamber that contains the Dark Mists of Niflheim.
Sindri will still be able to create a cornerstone that will grant you access to the central chamber, which is the workshop of dwarf craftsman Ivaldi, but he will need you to acquire 500 Echoes of the Mist first. Let’s talk about it?
The Mist Echoes
The Echoes of Mist can be found by opening chests and coffins scattered throughout the labyrinth of Niflheim. However, since you’ll be in the lethal mist, you won’t be able to survive long past the first area. Therefore, opening chests will give you more time to get through the maze.
When you start, stay in the first area, collect the Mist Echoes only after dealing with the enemies, then run back to the entrance, where it’s safe. The chests and coffins in the first area can be found on a pillar to the right of the entrance; two are near the end of the bridge and another set of twin chests is near the marker.
Keep doing this until you get 500 Mist Echoes, which is the amount needed to create the key you need.
Entering the Central Chamber and Opening the Chest
Now, go back to the first area and eliminate the enemies there. Once defeated, you’ll be able to clear your way to the Central Chamber, which also serves as a safe room within the maze.
Niflheim’s Dark Mists can be purchased here, but first, you’ll need to get 5,000 Mist Echoes to open the chest that contains it. To help you survive longer in the maze, purchase Ivaldi’s Armor Set, one of the best armor sets in the game, and it will allow you to survive in the fog longer. The armor set can be obtained from Ivaldi’s Rusty Armor and Niflheim’s Rifts, which appear randomly in chests. A Valkyrie can also be found here, and she will also grant some Echoes of Mist.
Once you’ve reached the 5,000 Mist Echoes needed to open the chest, head back to the Central Chamber and open the chest to finally acquire the Dark Mists of Niflheim. Anyway, totally improve your Leviathan Ax.
